Soil pollution is a now a great threat. It affects and effects manifold. Not only for agricultural produce, has polluted soil done much harm to the people who use it. Hence, prevention of soil pollution is immediate necessity. It can be effectively carried only when we understand it.
Due to regular usage of chemicals on soil in the form of fertilizers and pesticide, insecticides, many materials like mercury, lead, and sodium, potassium are fed into the soil. These are basically potential threats to human life. Soil pollution is linked to water pollution and air pollution as it causes other two.
Soil pollution is more rampant in developed countries rather than in developing countries. It is a serious threat to animal and plant life. Soil pollution occurs in many ways. Dangerous substances are introduced to the soil through water also which may come from dumping grounds. As it reached a position of non preventability, it is far better to control rather than to arrest it.
Now the countries all over the world are taking preventive measures to check soil pollution. Chemical usage in the agriculture is now prohibited. Forestation is very much encouraged. Usage of microorganisms such as rhizobium to increase the soil fertility is also encouraged. And many more measures are in the offing to make soil pollution check more affective.
