| Cause Of Soil Pollution
When the soil loses its structure and biological as well as chemical characteristics it is called soil pollution or soil contamination. This is due to man made chemicals, natural changes of the soil and environment. This is more prominent in the more developed countries like the US and the UK. It is less in developing countries.Due to the use of fertilizers and chemicals, changes of salinity of the soil are the main effect. |

Usage of chemicals in the form of fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides is the cardinal reason for the soil pollution. These chemicals can bring forth drastic change of the salinity of the soil and ultimately makes the soil sterile or unfertile. The chemicals can also kill the microorganisms present in the soil can make the land lose minerals, thus causing irreparable loss and soil pollution.
Soil erosion is also a cause of soil pollution. Top soil erosion is caused by human activity, heavy rain water, winds, deforestation and by indiscriminate farming. When the top soil is lost, water retention ability of the soil will be less. Hence, the land becomes sterile and cannot be used for cultivation.
Due to the heavy usage of chemicals, the salinity of the soil rises to abnormal levels and hence the land becomes unfit for cultivation. Also, the land loses water absorption capacity. This also makes the land unsuitable for cultivation.
Chemicals released from the industries, and factories, petroleum and other oil leakages, indiscriminate release of sewage waters into the rivers and ponds are also other important causes for soil pollution.
