What Is Indoor Air Pollution ?

Indoor air pollution is a common term used to describe the quality of air indoors, and whether it is polluted or not. Most people do not consider indoor pollution, and think they are exposed to the risks of air pollution only when they are outdoors. However, if we are not careful, then we can create the same polluted environment we have outdoors even our homes without knowing about it.

For many, who do not know about it, indoor pollution can cause serious health hazards. It can worsen conditions like asthma and chest-related infections, and it can also cause these same respiratory problems in children and seniors. In addition, indoor air pollution can lead to pneumonia through mold and other harmful chemicals. Most people spend nearly 90 percent of the time indoors. It may seem as astonishing, but it is true. Indoors does not necessarily mean at house. Indoors also relates to office or any other place where you stay in a closed environment. The air circulation is restricted within the premises of a building. The same air is circulating repeatedly. This air may be polluted for several reasons, and we are breathing in the same type of air day after day.

At homes even cooking using natural resources like fire can lead to air pollution. If the kitchen is not ventilated properly, then the polluted air circulated inside the house. The effects of indoor air pollution are same as the effects of outdoor air pollution. Moreover, smoking and usage of gas heaters only adds to this type of air pollution.
