Prevention And Air Pollution

Prevention is better than cure is an old saying. It is very true from all aspects, and it applies also to air pollution. Prevention of air pollution has become a global concern now with all countries participating in the efforts to control this kind of pollution. The United States especially has taken a very active approach towards making efforts to control air pollution.

The government plays a huge role in making the plan for pollution control a success. The first and foremost thing required for controlling air pollution is awareness. More the awareness increases among people, more they will be concerned about the environment and also their own health. The awareness should be caused in the right way. Only then will people take effective measures to control the air pollution levels.

Secondly, the government has to provide encouragement to people. Not everyone will be bothered in their day to day life about air pollution, and seldom do people think before buying additional products or driving their car. So, if there is an incentive offered like a tax rebate for using less or consuming fewer products that cause air pollution, then people will feel more encouraged towards the drive for reducing air pollution.

The biggest advantage the government has that it can reach out to the masses, and it can bring about a change in environment at a larger scale. There are several individual organizations working towards controlling air pollution, but they can only reach out to a few people. Also, the government can pass legislation that forces people to control their usage of certain products. One example of such a legislation is the Clean Air Act.
