Air Pollution From Municipal Dumps

Municipal dumps are a major cause for concern because they cause environmental pollution. Most of the municipal dumps are filled with plastic and diapers. These items do not disintegrate naturally, and they remain without decomposing. They have to be buried in the soil and they contaminate the ground where they have been buried.Municipal dump are created in the outskirts of the city so that all the wastes can be dumped there.

Sometimes sea and ocean ends are used as dumps. Disposing rubbish in this manner can be extremely contaminating to the environment around wherever it has been dumped. Nearly 70 percent of the garbage that comes from municipal dumps is full of plastic. These can be plastic bags, wrapping, shopping bags, supermarket bags, zip lock bags and much more.

People do not recycle plastic and simply put them in their trash cans. These plastic bags do not disintegrate, and even over a period of time they remain in their original form. How do municipal dumps cause air pollution? The air around municipal dumps is always contaminated because several items in the dumps are toxic in nature and very few are biodegradable wastes. So, they invariably end up disintegrating and also release toxins into the air and also into the soil, which ultimately find their way into groundwater. These toxins can be gases like methane, sulfur, nitrogen and carbon monoxide. These gases are all considered as greenhouse gases causing global warming.

Municipal dumps that contain toxic material are a threat to the environment. Air pollution caused by them can lead to killer diseases and also damage crops at a large level.

Pollution:

Air-Pollution-Statistics      The government of the United States has many air pollution monitoring units in several cities to measure air pollution levels. After the recent global warming control pact, the government is even more vigilant about creating a safer environment to live in. However, global warming is an issue that cannot be brought under control in one single day. It has to be a consistent process of efforts. More..
