Pollution is the biggest factor contributing to global warming and it is also a major problem in the current day world. Invariably the only solution seems to be cutting down the usage of vehicles and transportation so that fuel is conserved. As of now, there is no other solution which can save the environment.

There are some industries which use petrol and oil more than the others.Airports in the United States are known to be the major sources of noise, water and also air pollution. They are contributing in a big way to air pollution. Airplanes fly high, and they burn fuel in large quantities. They have direct access to the atmosphere above and the emissions caused are left as residuals in the atmosphere at higher altitudes. When an airplane flies, it pumps carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide and also organic compounds into the atmosphere. These chemicals are volatile in nature. There are several other chemicals used by the airline industry other than petrol and gas. Toxic chemicals are used to device planes.

The air traffic especially is very heavy in the United States. Cities like New York and Los Angeles have both road and air traffic in high volumes. Also, these cities come under the most polluted areas of the United States. The growth of the airline industry and adding more planes to the existing fleet is only going to cause more air pollution. The only solution for this is to extend the runways. So that the plane spends more time taking off on land than in air.
