| How Pollution Affects Animals ?
When soil, water or air gets contaminated by chemicals or other substances and it becomes harmful to all living organisms, it is known as pollution. We already know that pollution can cause a whole lot of health problems in humans, but even animals suffer on account of it.Animals are adversely affected by pollution directly as well as indirectly. |

Due to global warming, depletion of the ozone and spread of human waste in the environment where animals are living, animals have been affected indirectly. This type of pollution is a threat to their habitat. Direct pollution in the animals' habitats is mostly caused by toxic chemicals like heavy metals, oil and acid rain.
Here are some effects of pollution on animals:
- Manmade chemicals like pesticides and herbicides that are known to be an important part of agriculture are poisoning the habitat of the animals. Chemicals like DDT are causing the reproductive systems in animals to fail. Also, they are causing neurological problems in the animals. Many countries have banned used of certain pesticides and herbicides that have a detrimental effect on animals.
- Oil spills are major cause of marine pollution. In fact, oil spills in the oceans are known to destroy marine life without any remorse. Sea birds, sea otters, fish, dolphins, turtles, and many other wildlife living in the oceans die due to oil spills. In addition, when the oil reaches the beaches, they again harm the animals and birds that live on the beaches. Oil spills are known to cause problems with the reproductive system, cause neurological damage and make the animals more susceptible to different diseases.
- Due to mining, refining of metals and waste water, heavy metals have fond their way into the environment. These toxic metals are known to affect animals adversely by causing damage to the neurological system, and liver. In addition, they cause muscle atrophy and failure in the reproductive systems. Indirectly, the toxic metals get absorbed by the plants where they get accumulated, and when these plants are consumed by herbivores, these herbivores are adversely affected.
- When oil and coal are burned, they give out sulfur and nitrogen. This reacts with the atmosphere and falls as acid rain. This form of rain affects fish, birds and animals by killing them.

Pollution:
Type Of Pollution
There are many different types of pollution which can be caused by gases, liquids, noise, particulate matter, light, heat or even solids. All these pollutants give rise to different types of pollution in their own way. Sometimes, some types of chemicals are present naturally in the environment. However, due to human activities, the amount of the chemicals increase, and it is then that the chemicals become dangerous for humans, animals and plants. More..
