Approximately, 6,000 people were missing on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Ministry of Health of Indonesia declared 131,028 fatalities, principally in the northern region Aceh of the island Sumatra. Moreover, around 37,000 people went missing.
Although Malaysia was quite close to the epicenter, it didn’t experience much of damage. On the other hand, nations which were thousands of miles away from the epicenter were badly affected by the tsunami. The figure of casualties was around 69 with 5 people missing.
In the Maldives, 82 people lost their lives and 26 were accounted missing. Survivors in Myanmar approximated up to 600 deaths.
Somalia was around 4,500 km away from the epicenter of the earthquake. However, the enormous waves of the tsunami damaged and brushed away entire villages and coastline populations of Somalia. Around 176 inhabitants were declared dead, 136 were missing and more than 50,000 were relocated.
In Sri Lanka, the south and east coasts were most horribly smacked. The official agencies accounted 31,229 deaths, and around 4,093 inhabitants were missing. Almost 2,000 of the dead endured on the Queen of the Sea holiday train which was ruined by the tsunami. Around one and a half million populace were relocated from their homes, and several people were divested or estranged from their families.
The Thai management accounted 5,395 casualties, 8,457 were wounded and 2,817 went missing. Destruction was limited to the six southern regions close to the Andaman Sea.
