Hurricane Katrina Facts

 

The hurricane Katrina, which took place in the year 2005, is believed to be one of the priciest hurricanes. Also, it is considered to be one of the five most lethal calamities in the history of the United States. It is also believed that amongst all the recorded hurricanes, it was the sixth most impregnable calamities of the world and the third strongest to cause a landfall in the United States.

         New Orleans of Louisiana experienced the majority of casualties and assets and belongings impairment. The national flood defense organization in New Orleans broke down at more than fifty places. More than 1,836 people lost their lives in the hurricane and in the successive floods, inducing it as the most fatal hurricane of the United States.
Gradually, hurricane Katrina developed as Tropical Depression Twelve over the southeastern Bahamas when it came in contact with a tropical wave and the leftovers of Tropical Depression Ten. The system was advanced to tropical storm condition and thereby the storm started being acknowledged by the name Katrina. The tropical storm persistently moved towards Florida.

The flow of the storm also devastated the coasts of Mississippi and Alabama, hence, acknowledging Katrina as the most critical and expensive natural disaster in the history of the United States. Also, it was considered to be the deadliest hurricane after the 1928 Okeechobee Hurricane. The overall amount of destruction from Katrina is calculated to be $81.2 billion. This amount is almost double the expense of the earlier most costly storm, Hurricane Andrew.
The hurricane left around three million inhabitants without electricity. Hence, the repercussions of Hurricane Katrina are depicted as perhaps the most horrible disaster, or set of disasters in the country's history.
