Xining which is situated in the eastern part of Qinghai region dwells on the Xining River. It had an overall quarter of 350 square km.
Its major businesses included wool spinning and textiles, fur, meat, milk, salt, and light processing industries.
Xining also used to be a principal profit-making center on the convoy path to Tibet, mainly managing with timber, wool and salt.
This 1927 earthquake of 7.9 magnitudes shattered the entire base of the Xining state. It caused deaths of 200,000 people. It also led to great land cracking and other destructions. Thousands of edifices were ruined in this earthquake. Over 500 schools and office buildings were also damaged. Many people lost their occupations and abodes. Soon after the quake, local officials led rescue teams to the disaster-hit areas to support relief work.
This quake is also linked with a former tremor of China which took place in the state of Gansu, 1920. It measured 8.6 and caused 200,000 deaths.
Xining has an account of more than 2100 years. It was the exterritorial capital of the Koko Nor province and was included in Gansu until 1928. Then, it became the regional capital of the newly found sovereign county of Qinghai. It was in 1945 that Xining got its public position.
