In the United States, the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) regulates the rules and regulations of dumping of waste material. One of the waste materials regulated by the EPA is toxic waste about which proper care must be taken. State departments of environmental protection also assist the EPA. These see that disposal of toxic wastes is done in specified locations throughout the country. In several towns, the toxic wastes are collected on specified days. There is also the Super Fund Act, which has regulations regarding the cleansing of the toxic wastes, which are dumped illegally. There are complaints for and against the hardness of the rules.
One facility given to citizens is sealed containers in which toxic wastes are sealed and buried in the ground. Some lesser toxic materials will not be carried away and are allowed to lie in the soil by getting sealed underground under hard clay. Large chunks of such locations are called brown fields, and they are used for golf courses and parks. Reckless dumping incurs heavy penalties.
