Facts About Soil Erosion

Intense water and wind flow cause soil erosion. This results in loss of soil with useful nutrients. Also, the land becomes uneven and rough. Fertility of the soil reduces, which is nowhere useful for planting. This is a very slow process, that cannot be noticed, but at the same time it occurs continuously.

So, after some time, soil erosion creates major problems for soil and trees as well.Wind affects soil in two ways. It either transports the small and light particles of the soil from one place to another, or sometimes the particles colloid with another particle or surface resulting in erosion. The amount and quality of soil erosion depends upon the duration and speed of the wind.

Plants play an important role in stopping soil erosion. The soil is tightly held by the plants and trees. Industrialization and urbanization cause cutting off the plants and trees, resulting in deforestation. Due to this, soil becomes loosely bound and wind and water can easily erode it.

Soil erosion reduces the property of the soil, since it detaches the minerals and nutrients from it. When the chemical containing soil enters water resources, it contaminates the water and creates soil pollution. Groundwater also gets affected which becomes harmful to drink.

Increase in plantation and vegetation is one of the best ways to stop soil erosion. Different practices like tree plantation, terrace farming, conservation tillage and irrigation schemes can be implemented to prevent soil erosion.

However, crop rotation technique, planting more vegetation, plowing and keeping the soil moist with humus are effect ways of combating soil erosion.

How-Can-Humans-Reduce-Soil-Erosion      Soil erosion is normally a natural process. When the wind or water transports soil with its rich minerals and nutrients, soil erosion occurs. The soil, as a result, is transferred from one place to another. Various manmade practices have interfered in this process also. Industrialization and deforestation are few examples. More..
