| Causes Of Soil Erosion
|
Soil erosion is a process which transfers some amount of soil from one place to another. Major factors causing soil erosion are wind and water. Soil from land is generally transported in the form of small particles. Soils from hilly area come down under the gravitational force. But a common thing is that a huge amount of nutrients available in soil is lost due to soil erosion. |

Although soil erosion is processed by natural factors, human participation cannot be ignored. Land used for establishing industries and factories are a result of deforestation. Removing trees and plants from the land makes the soil loose, which can then be transported very easily by water and wind. Trees hold the soil tightly, and maintain its fertility to produce more cereals and vegetables.
Few proper practices, if used, can control the soil erosion. Tree plantation, terrace farming and conservation tillage practices are some of the practices that can help to prevent soil erosion.
However, natural soil erosion has also some advantages for the ecosystem. Movement of gravel into watercourses is one of the examples.
The intensity of natural factors also determines the degree of soil erosion. If the water stream or speed of the wind is fast, more soil is transferred, which results in movement of more nutrients. Rainfall also causes soil erosion. The land with too much of sand and silt erode easily in comparison to the soil present in rocky hills and plains.
If the water goes under the ground, the degree of soil erosion will be less. Also, the water will be utilized. But this is a very slow process.
