| Causes Of Ozone Depletion
|
The earth is made up of different layers of atmosphere. Troposphere, stratosphere, ozone are all different layers that make up the atmosphere in and above the earth. Every layer has unique gases and functions to maintain the environmental balance on earth. The ozone layer is located somewhere between 10 kilometers and 50 kilometers above the Earth. The main function of the ozone layer is to give us protection from the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun. |

Nearly 90 percent of the ozone layer is made up of the stratosphere ozone. Usually ozone is made due to the photochemical reaction that takes place between oxygen and solar radiation. However, now due to pollution and the high emissions of fluorocarbons, the balance of the ozone layer is disturbed to the extent that it is depleting.
Industries are the highest users of CFCs. The pollution caused by vehicle emissions and the industrial wastage is adding to the ultra violet radiation. The ultra violet rays react with these polluting materials and cause the ozone layer to deplete by replacing the oxygen available there. Aircraft emissions are adding to the depletion. Gases like sulfur and nitrogen can easily react with the ultraviolet rays, and also cause the zone gas to be reproduced at the troposphere level. At this level, ozone can itself be very harmful for the human beings. Troposphere is the immediate layer that humans come in contact with on Earth. As of toady, the number one cause for ozone layer depletion is pollution from all sources.
