What Can We Do To Stop Acid Rain ?

Acid rain mainly consists of sulfuric acid and nitrogen dioxide. When these substances interact with water and oxygen present in the air, they can become acidic. Sunlight adds to the chemical process and in fact speeds it up. Sulfur and nitrous oxide are emitted when fossil fuels are burnt. Coal, petrol and other oils are all fossil fuels. They are formed over a period of millions of years.

The main users of oil and fossil fuels like coal are power plants, industries, factories, and vehicles that run on gasoline. Acid rain is bad for the environment, sea life, animals and human beings. It causes detrimental effects on plant growth, kills fish in the sea and also causes various health problems for human beings.

There are several things that we can do to stop acid rain. Energy conservation is in the hands of everyone. One is by frequently turning off the power to electrical appliances. The key here is to use less energy or power and conserve it for future use. So, even the power plant reduces the production due to low consumption, and less fossil fuel is burnt in the process. Using public transportation leads to less consumption of petrol, and also buying lower polluting vehicles helps to a great extent. These are some simple steps that people can take to conserve energy on a daily basis. The lesser we use, the lesser consumption gets, and so does the production. It is simple economics, but it can prevent permanent damage to the ecosystem in several ways.

What-Does-Acid-Rain-Do-To-Rocks      Acid rain is mainly caused due to pollution, which in turn is caused by industries and also vehicles. It is mainly caused due to burning of fossil fuels because this process emits acids like sulfur and nitrogen dioxide. When these gases react with oxygen in the atmosphere and come in contact with sunlight, they turn acidic in nature. More..
