How Many Animals Died From Acid Rain ?

Acid rain is extremely harmful and damaging to the environment. If acid rain continues over a period of time, then it can damage the environment permanently.

Both water and land life are affected due to this type of rain. Scientists believe that animals in the water get more affected due to acid rain than animals on the land.Acid rain contaminates the water in the seas, lakes and ponds, and the animals which drink or live in such water may die or develop serious health problems. Fish need water to breathe, and when the water is polluted, the fish die.

Today, it is believed that rain water is contaminated to an extent. The acidity in the water is measured using the pH balance. The pH scale has four values, and 7 are considered as a neutral value. If the pH level of rain water falls below 5.6, then it is considered to be acidic. Today, it is extremely difficult to find a normal balance of 5.6 on pH scale in rain water. Due to the high levels of pollution, all rain water is acidic to an extent.

Several fish and other vulnerable sea life are likely to die due to acid rain. When the quality of water goes down, in other words when the pH level drops below 4.5, then almost all the frogs and insects living in that particular water body will die. These amphibians and insects are much needed for the environment. If the pH falls below 4.5, even land animals and sea animals like whales will die. They cannot live in such highly acidic and contaminated water.

Pollution-And-Acid-Rain      Pollution is directly related to acid rain. Pollution is caused due to smoke emitted from factories, industries and also vehicles. This amounts to the majority of the pollution caused to the environment. Most of the gases that contribute to pollution are harmful in nature. So, pollution is a form of emission that contains harmful gases that act against the greenhouse in nature. Pollution causes severe damage to the environment, and one of the effects of it is acid rain. More..
