Natural Gases Causing Global Warming
| Natural gases can cause global warming. Carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, methane, and ozone are some of the natural gases causing global warming. Some of human activities also add these natural gases to the atmosphere. |
|
How do these natural gases cause global warming? It creates the phenomenon call, “The Greenhouse Effect”. The sun radiates sunlight to the earth. Some of it is absorbed by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The absorption of sunlight by the greenhouse gases warms the atmosphere. The gases reflect the some of radiation back to space. Some of radiations also reflect it back to the surface of the earth.
Though water vapor occurs naturally, it is the major natural gas that causes greenhouse effect. Human activity does not directly affect water vapor concentrations, except at very local scales. About thirty six to seventy percent of the greenhouse effect is contributed from it. Methane causes about nine to twenty six percent, and ozone causes about three to seven percent. Other gases that also contribute to global warming are nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, sulfur hexafluoride, perfluorocarbons, and chlorofluorocarbons.
The concentrations of greenhouse gases have increased over the year. Some of human activities such as burning of fossil fuels and deforestation increase the gases. It is our responsibility to reduce it. You can do your parts by recycling, conserve energy, plant tree, and encourage other to help.
