| Because musk ox is endangered specie, there are efforts around the world to raising endangered musk ox. Musk ox is an animal in Bovidae family. It is an artic ox that has thick fur and strong odor. That’s how it gets its name. Both gender of musk ox have long horns. Ironically, Musk ox is more closely related to goats and sheep than oxen. |

The full grown musk ox can weight up to two hundred kilograms( 440 lb). The big one can weigh over four hundred kilograms.
In the summer, musk oxen usually live near river or wet areas. They feed on plants like grass on the ground or reeds. In the winter, they dig through snow to find food.
Musk oxen are considered to be social animals. They usually live in group between ten and twenty. But sometime the group can be as large as four hundred. In the mating season, adult musk oxen will compete for mating. The dominant musk oxen will drives the other out of the group. During this season, all male musk oxen are very aggressive and dangerous. The non-breeding male oxen who are driven out of the group will usually get together and form smaller group between 3-10.
The male musk oxen usually reach their sexually maturity after five years, but the females will only need two years. Female musk oxen usually give a single calf one at the time.
When the herd of musk oxen is threaten by the predator, it usually form a stationary ring around the baby calves. Though their defense mechanism usually work for wolves, it makes them very vulnerable against human.
