Help Endangered Animals

An endangered species refers to a population of animal that is risk of becoming extinct. The World Conservation Union or International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) speculate that forty percent of all animals are endangered.

There are laws and efforts to protect these endangered species. For example, US government is to keep them from extinction. However, only a few of endangered species obtain these protection and help. Many species will become extinct without getting notice from the public.

The rapid rate of animal extinctions in the last one hundred and fifty years alarms the global concern. When a specie has evolved, it usually take at least several hundred million years to become extinct. The extinction rates are about one hundred to one thousand times higher than average rates in evolutionary time scale. It the extinction continues at this speed, million of species will be extinct within the next decade.

The extinctions raise four main concerns for the ecologist.

  1. Loss of irreplaceable bio chemicals and genetic materials
  2. The threat of endangerment of other species
  3. Ecosystem destabilization
  4. Loss of species as a whole

Previous extinctions are caused from volcanic activity, impact events, and climate change. At the present, human intervention contributes a great deal to animal extinctions. Human has began disrupted the ecological balance by hunting for approximately one hundred thousand years ago. It is time that we all help endangered animals .
