Do you know what are Cause and effect for global warming ? The polar ice caps are melting, and so are the glaciers. Rainforest habitat is disappearing at a rate of hundreds of acres every day. Summers are getting hotter, winters are getting shorter, and many of us feel like there’s nothing we can do about it.

Fortunately, that’s not the case. There are many things that average citizens can do to slow this alarming trend, and these adjustments will also save you money.

The first thing you can do to save the Earth is reduce your energy consumption. In most of the United States, electricity is produced by burning fossil fuels, a process that releases hundreds of thousands of tons of carbon dioxide every year. Reducing your electricity demands prevents this carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere.

But how? First of all, look around your home. Do your doors and windows seal tightly? How about your refrigerator and freezer doors? If not, seal them to save energy. Are you still using traditional filament light bulbs? If so, change them out with florescent bulbs that use one quarter the electricity and last up to ten years.

Adjust your thermostat two degrees warmer in summer and cooler in winter. Clean your filters monthly to save up to ten percent off your electric bill. Also, wipe down the condenser on the back of your refrigerator at least once every three months.

Making these small changes can do more than save you money—it can save the Earth.
